EVERY TOWEL PLANTS A TREE
As GRIDAL Store, we have started our small business to have minimum negative impact on environment. We designed it minimize our carbon impact and give back to nature whenever possible. We are aware that our small positive impact is incomparable against the current global crisis we are in, but our main purpose is to inspire other businesses and spread the word of Green Business Practices. For this reason, we have joined “One Tree Planted” campaign in our Store.
All GRIDAL towels are made of natural products. Our main material is Turkish cotton which has a net negative carbon footprint. In other words, total embodied carbon of cotton is less than the plant’s absorption from air. With the energy you spend on one cycle on your dishwasher, you can produce about 5 kg cotton (cotton’s life cycle assessment). If grown in a suitable climate, cotton can grow with natural irrigation only. As a natural product, cotton is completely biodegradable, which means that it breaks down when put into a composting pile or bin. Because of cotton's biodegradable properties, all-cotton based textile can also be recycled and used in the manufacture of useful materials, such as household insulation.
After production process, cotton fibers are brought to our workshops and hand made models are loomed into beautiful towels by hand using traditional wooden looms. Each fringe gets twisted and knotted by hand. The whole process is independent of machine power.
To reduce our carbon footprint even further, we set our minds to plant one tree for each cotton purchase. As the tree grows, it will bind more carbon to itself from atmosphere and make a tiny contribution to slow global warming. Your tree certificate is going to be sent to you right after your purchase. By default, we pick a deforested location in Canada but if you have another region in mind, let us know via a note during your purchase.
