My First Time Skydiving

on

I've always loved the idea of skydiving. I mean, who wouldn't want to float through the air like Supergirl? But for most of my childhood, skydiving was nothing more than a dream—a fantasy that I would never realize in real life.

Then one day as I was looking at my news feed on Facebook, I saw an ad from a sky diving center promoting its new tandem skydiving program. "This is it," I thought, and before I knew it, I had purchased the voucher and the date was set. The day of the jump came, and while there were definitely some nerves beforehand (especially as we were riding up in the plane), it was amazing to literally float through the clouds! And when you're falling at 120 miles per hour through the clouds... Well, let's just say that there wasn't much time for thinking about anything other than how amazing it feels! Even if you're not someone who likes adventure sports or thrill seeking in general (like me), skydiving is still something that everyone should try at least once in their lives

Ever since I was a kid, I've looked up at the sky and wondered what it would be like to fly.

To answer the question of "why skydive?" we have to look at the experience from a different perspective. Skydiving is something that everyone should try at least once in their lives, because it's an amazing way to see the world from a completely new perspective. When you're up there floating through the air like a bird, it feels as though nothing can stop you—you don't even think about what could happen if your parachute fails or malfunctions because all you can think about is how liberating and exciting it is to be able to fly through the sky like Superman!

Tandem Skydiving

So why would anyone want to jump out of an airplane? I did it because when I was young, I looked up at the sky and wondered what it would be like—and here we are today with me having done just that!

And for most of my life, that's exactly what skydiving was: a dream.

For most of my life, that's exactly what skydiving was: a dream. I've wanted to do it since I was a kid, but as an adult with responsibilities and fears of the unknown, that dream became something I would think about fondly but could never make happen. Then one day, something changed.

I'd been thinking about skydiving again after so many years—sixteen or seventeen by this point—and I decided to see if there were any places around me where it could be done safely and legally, even though I didn't want to spend money on it yet because I still wasn't sure if this would actually happen for me.

That's when I stumbled upon Skydive Valley Forge in Georgia—a drop zone that offers tandem jumps for first-timers at no cost (as long as you bring your own equipment). The idea was so tempting that within days of finding out about them, my mom and sister had signed up too!

"I have friends who would go skydiving all the time," I told myself. "I'm not that kind of person who does things like that."

I have friends who would go skydiving all the time, and they always encouraged me to join them. But I'm not that kind of person who does things like that. However, my friend Laura was different; she had never really been interested in skydiving until a few years ago when she had her first experience with it. After jumping out of an airplane at 13,000 feet, she said that her life changed completely: "It was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had," she told me. "You see everything from above—you get to see how small everything is."

I knew Laura wasn't lying; after all, she's my best friend and we share many things in common (like our love for dogs). So why shouldn't I try skydiving? It seemed like an adventure worth taking at this point in my life—and what better way would there be than doing something fun with your best friends?

Then one day as I was looking at my news feed on Facebook, I saw an ad from a sky diving center promoting its new tandem skydiving program.

Tandem skydiving is a safe and fun way to experience the thrill of skydiving. If you are an experienced skydiver, then you know how much work goes into preparing for a jump. For beginners, tandem skydiving is a good place to start because it allows you to enjoy the thrill without having all of the responsibilities that come with jumping solo.

To do tandem skydiving, you must be at least 18 years old and weigh less than 250 pounds (113 kg). You'll meet with your instructor on the ground and go over safety instructions before getting in their harnesses so they can safely fly together into free fall together!

"This is it," I thought, and before I knew it, I had purchased the voucher and the date was set.

I bought the voucher for my first jump on a whim. I was in a bookstore, browsing through some travel magazines, when I stumbled across an advertisement for skydiving. The ad reminded me of how much I had loved watching videos of other people jumping out of airplanes and falling to earth like raindrops. For reasons unknown to me at the time, this seemed like a fun thing to do with friends—or maybe even by myself! It was less than $200 per person and included equipment rental and ground training so that all you had to do was show up on the day of your jump and soar right into the heavens above!

Two Courageous People Skydiving

I didn't really think much about doing it until I got home from work one day, whereupon my brother informed me that he'd found someone who wanted to go skydiving on Saturday—and since he couldn't commit until then (because he didn't want his girlfriend finding out), I offered up my spot instead. After thinking about it for a few minutes (and realizing how cheap this experience would be compared with most other things), I agreed: This was going to happen soon!

Once you get past that initial fear of jumping out of a plane, you can't help but smile and laugh. It's truly an experience that everyone should try at least once in their life.

It's a powerful sensation—the feeling of being so high up in the air and yet also weightless. You can see things from a different perspective, like how small your town looks or how intricate the trees look on the ground. It's almost like being in a dream where everything is perfect and there are no worries left behind; all that matters is that moment right now, falling through the clouds with nothing but air surrounding you. And then suddenly—you're landing!

When you're free-falling through 140 mph winds, all you can do is feel that wind in your face before your parachute deploys and allows you to glide softly to earth.

When you're free-falling through 140 mph winds, all you can do is feel that wind in your face before your parachute deploys and allows you to glide softly to earth. It's exhilarating, scary and amazing all at once.

When I jumped out of the plane and into a free fall, I was so excited but also terrified! The speed at which my body was accelerating gave me butterflies in my stomach because we were going so fast! Then it happened: the chute opened right as we reached 4,000 feet above ground level (AGL). From then on there was no doubt that this had been one of the best decisions of my life—I'd just done something crazy and incredible!

Men on Parachute

As soon as our chutes opened up we began to slow down significantly from our initial drop speed of 120mph+. We took some deep breaths as we glided through clouds above New York City towards our landing zone in Jersey City.

Even if you're not someone who likes adventure sports or thrill seeking in general, skydiving is still something that everyone should try at least once in their lives.

It's a great way to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. It's a great way to challenge yourself and overcome your fears. And it can be an amazing time spent with friends and family!

So if you’re looking for a new adventure, I highly recommend skydiving. You will not regret it!
